Some have got the perfect life of angels, as for me until now I have been afforded to the dreadful fate of devils. From now on this devil is in my hand, my mind, my language. I will make every effort to produce what in my opinion is art. I give thanks to the causality for having sent me into this arid and crual environment, so enabling to develop thatsaving gangrene ...that obscene torrent of reasoned madness haunting me and allowing me to create. Screaming towards the distant olympus. My aim is to convince, individually,all those blessed looks which will turn a friendly gaze with a golden iris on this dizzy emotional jumble coming out of my creations.

I beg you, carry out the judgement !
Venerable judges, sacred emperors, demiurges, deities.
Once again, I ask you, let the judgement be done !


Bestial Bermuda


During my stay in Sweden, I got a very special order from a couple of customers  and friends from now on. A work, complex in apprehending and realizing, articulated in several parts. As for the theme, no problem, as they knew my former work, they had given me their go-ahead. Right now, in full questioning, I decided then to make a picture that would express positive things. Sometimes painful, stunning or stressful but necessary wrongs, I hungered for becoming more gentle in my drawings. In other words, I wanted to draw a lighter picture in a dreamy, ethereal atmosphere. The name would be “ Bermuda “, after the name of the islands, of course, to evoke a momentary soft perdition and the 3 axis of this work would be Love Calm and Peace.

A drawing about the stages of the true love. When at a certain extent of my work, I had then sent the drawing to my agent who went to see my customers.
They appreciated the style and the finish, but were disappointed not to find again the level of violence and invariable destruction, this so characteristic venom I am in the habit of blowing in my pictures.
  
They told Hilal « What is the matter ? we are not hippies”. I had to bring “Bermuda” to a halt and do again something deeply dark where “my madness” could be felt in my drawing as Rudy had told me when looking at my works. The day when Hilal warned me about that shift- let’s call that the fate-I was at my friend’s in Sweden and the atmosphere was electric to say the least, he and his girlfriend were just going through a few problems, I was myself rather tense and the events of November 13th to come would not unfortunately spare us.

The fact remains that I have been able to realise the preparatory outline of this complex work, like in automatic writing,storing the straining and the residual vibrations around , in 5 or 6 hours I had the whole of my composition and most of the elements included in the final picture. This is the way I have started this new picture that I called “ bestial Bermuda”. In fact it is the exact opposite of the preceding “Bermuda”. A sort of triple portrait of the three of us in our worst behaviors.

If I can define it like that, this triple portrait is a rough exaggeration of what we are, I,my friend and his girlfriend. But do not try to see there a description of our way of life, absolutely not. Look at that picture as if you read a punk novel. Our parts of fantasized shadows when the harmony collapses. Exactly like in the trilogy Ecstasy Melancholia and Thanathos from Ryu Murakami, I have used 3 key figures to offer an intelligible reading of the torments of Hell into which the hearts can sometimes sink.

All my thanks to Leo and Mimi for the support they lent to me all along my stay at Uppsala . In the end, I do not despair of finishing “ Bermuda” one day so as to bring more harmony in what I like to call the unified field.

Who knows?
In a realm of dreams, my pencil could be an oracle ?
And who knows ?
Perhaps my drawings could have the power of deciding the Fate ?

A triptych is a work composed with 3 panels, the 2 outside ones being able to close on the middle one .
The “bestial Bermuda” is a triple triptych.
This means 3 classical triptyches , placed side by side, and which, once opened, show a single picture made up of 9 panels .
On the other hand, when closed, the backs of the 2 external parts of each triptych form then 3 pictures composed, this time, of 6 panels.                                   
All in all, I had to create 4 pictures split in 15 parts.

Regarding the size, the work can be printed in big formats,as far as 12m long and 4m wide. We have also decided to print “Bestial Bermuda” in 9 copies to find an echo with the circles of Hell.

The circles of Hell are 9 circular zones, concentric and superimposed, making up Hell 
according to Dante Alighieri. However the reference to Dante stops here. Far from wanting to represent Hell in the sacred tradition, on the contrary I wanted to show Hell on Hearth in a pop version where love is sacrified on the altar of rivalry, perversion and vindictiveness...

In this picture the will for power takes precedence over communal harmony, the arrangement is in fact a succession of pyramids setting up in a chaotic way to fall back under the form of inverted pyramids creating violent waves where the human psyche is smashing into. All around levitate figures and symbols, drops, particles washed away here and there by vicious currents..

​Partie 1

The part 1 is made up of the « L » door and the 3 panels forming the “Ego” composition.
The first door is the “L” door , “Limo” door.
On it we can see a car wheel, all alone in the middle like an icon.
The wheel flange is decorated with precious stones, crystals or lights.
In its center, there is a “Smiley”, in that specific case it is a smirk . the smirk is always the broken reflection of internal pain.
The symbol sets the tone, the “Limo” doors will open on “Ego”, where you can discover a triumphant scene, but here it does not involve august victories, sublimation of instincts, on the contrary, it is about sadistic conquest.
The triumphant pleasure to see the others suffering of not being able to have access to what I have . The scene refers to hyperliberalism, gangsterism and narcissism .

 « Ego »is divided in 7 points I am introducing and later I will develope :

1 - Superstar Demon

A main character is in a dominant position over the scene, he is flying over the town, bare chested, metallic wings in the vengeful angel’s back, he is wearing a crown of conqueror’s laurels, a soothsayer-shaped talisman, and 2 pistols revolving around him, his satellites, the physical expression of his hate.
The triumphal crown is an award, the glorious winner one.
The eye of the talisman imbodies the prescience, the supernatural instinct the vision
The 2 pistols are of course in my jargon associated with the divine, my will in that picture is to create a new dogma through the pop culture icons.
To-day, in the culture,the pistol is omnipresent, it is the most popular symbol of power, as well as God, it has power of life and death...so like Zeus’s flashes of light they are the expression of anger, those 2 pistols are the perfect extension of “Ego”’s fury.
Through all those symbols, I wanted to synthesize the archetype of the “superstar gangsta”, an ultimate sadist, never loosing, bringing down endlessly all his detractors, selling without restraint his hate and his exaggerated pleasure, I have named it “Ego”.

2 - Limousine

The limousine is associated with glory, with celebrity status, it is a symbol of ostentatious success in collective unconscious, a “Vanity”.
​

It rises in the town sky, a mountain that sets up like a steel monolith, this movement gives substance to the megalomaniacal ascent of the figure. Numerous lights and symbols cover its glossy skin.

3 - “Fuck & Smile”

2 elements are placed below the pyramid, after the the pistol:”Fuck&Smile”.
​

The 1st symbol is a gloved hand with the middle finger up, it is composed with grotesque faces and 4 eyes on the phalanges, facies fractal that put into abyss the fiery sadism of this gesture on the other side a huge mouth burst out laughing, spluttering at the peak of rudeness and perversion.

4 - Dark Diamonds

Further in the fall of the pyramid, we can see 2 black diamonds shooting lightning bolts, levitating in the air.
Under a gestaltic angle, their dark, jerky, neurotic outlines remind us of jellyfish, of electric field, even of hostile spaceships, pictograms in the style of sprites of space invaders.

The diamonds make up the 1st border separating the chosen people from the fallen ones.

 Despicable symbol of God money.

5 - Fallen ambitionists

3 figures fall back inevitably all down the pyramid, their bodies are surrounded by flames, they fight to secure themselves, try to resist blinded by that dark star towering above them the negative pressure to which the 3 of them are submitted is symbolised by those flames those electric arcs harassing them just like “Ego” they coveted the king’s place, unable tolive without yelding to the calls of mimetic rivalry, they are the Fallen ambitionists bound to collapse under the pressure.
​  

Crazy just like their torturer they only live with the hope of seeing him fall whereas they die to see themselves sinking more and more deeply in the meanderings.

6 - Town

The town is a succession of towers and skyscrapers trying to set up always higher even then the idea of competition, of mimetic rivalry can be found again we can detect a few faces in the look of the buildings, urban bestiary, jungle metaphor, of the food chain other buildings are on fire, falling from the sky in a way we can see there the expression of “Ego” wrath, its monstruosity materialized through supernatural phenomenons, but we can also see a threat, the promise of a fall, like in Icarus’s myth.

“Ego”is in complete immoderation, if he and his procession of symbols are the hubris, all those buildings coming from the sky and falling on fire call for the nemesis to come.

The score is written already , the hubris inevitably leads to the nemesis.

“ Look at the animals the side of which is exceptional: the sky strikes them down and does not leave them enjoy their superiority; but the small ones do not arouse its jealousy . Look at the highest houses and trees, the lightning strikes them, because the sky always keeps down what exceeds the right size “ Herodote

7 - weeping heart
​

The eye watches the situation and, out of its tears, considers this sight sordid, of an abysmal sentimental deprivation.

The eye in the heart symbolises prescience and intuition, the heart feels, the eye sees, here it acts like an oracle, even there, the tears are a prelude to a nemesis to come .

Observer and judge, it is a witness of the perverted way, its tears are the fragmented, cracked expressions of a deafening cacophony empathic talisman, it is the moral container bursting into tears.
Weeping heart, a stigma of a sick society .

​Partie 2 :

The part 2 is made up of the “C” door and the 3 panels forming the “Nihilo” composition.
The 1st door is the “C” door, “Coke” door.
On it we can see a pyramidal heap of cocaine, a razor blade intended for preparing lines of cocaine and a strange-looking straw used to “sniffer” the drug.
The heap of cocaine, because of its shape,reminds us of the power, there is in this.
Arrangement a whole series of recurrent pyramidal shapes, we can also see in that the archetype of corrupt authority, a reference to popular fantasies about power and the functioning of the world.
As for the straw, at first the general shape reminds us of the Christian cross not in order to create a blasphemous symbol but to reflect the crucifixion.
When you think about it , the Christian cross is originally a symbol of violence.
Here I associate the self-flagellation and the self-destruction will with the hard drug- addiction   all this refers to the human condition, the sense of guilt .
We can also notice that the 2 lateral branches of the cross are 2 firearm butts with 2 triggers, as for the straw, it is decorated with horns and fins evoking a snake and a dragon.
The pistol must be associated with the risk behaviours, and the dragon with the dying breath.
When the “Coke” doors open, we can discover”Nihilo”, that scene is focused on masochism , perversion and ordalistic or even suicidal behaviours .

NIHILO
    « Nihilo » is divided into 2 parts I introduce now , and then I will develop :

1 - « Nihilo » passenger

In this scene, the main character is an attraction customer, he pays to break out, to get pleasure, he lives on artificial paradise ,alone in his railcar with both arms stretched out wide tilting his head with an extatic smile.

His lifestyle is simple, he claims for discretion, passivity is his weapon and his credo.

He is “Nihilo”, nothing had, has or will have any importance, neither death nor certainly not life.

2 - Roller coaster

The roller coaster is a metaphor of life according to “Nihilo”, it is obvious that this attraction leads to a fatal fall.

For those who take this way, attachment to human life is derisory, the time is a race against the clock, you must make the most of your life (perverted Epicure).

3 - Kaos Park

Here the play takes place in an amusement park. The break up with the previous scene is shown by 2 grotesque figures, a hammerhead shark topped with a sharp-pawed bear displaying 2 grinning smiles.
It is about the entrance of the park, a promise of dreads and pains for the fervent follower of masochism.
Behind a building on fire, it is the end of the town, of the 1st part, a pillar of fire graphically split the 2 zones.
In the foreground, attractions and pipings can be seen , the dark part of the park.
In the background, attractions are wrapped in the sky, creating an organic network of ellipses and circles.
This entangled and organic appearance must be understood as a metaphor of the arterial and nervous systems, an overworked body .
We are in the presence of an organism of which all the parts go on in unisson, taken to artificial paradises.
With the physical pain or the nervous outburst , screams are often associated.

4 - Yells

4 figures or totems yell,scattered in the middle of this park as if interconnected in a mass hysteria: a metallic snake, a hybrid boyscout crossbreed of Elvis Presley and Astroboy, a laser syringe and at last the ghost train skull.

Everything here is responding in a cacophony of the physical and nervous break up.

To reach those crazy heights , strange elixirs, synthetic olympus, revolve around everywhere.

5 - Artificial paradises

Going to an amusement park, it is to buy a break out, dread, shivers, thrills,strong feelings, sweets and sodas etc... are also taken .

Everything converges on relaxation, letting go, depressurization.

But an outlet, when it becomes a way of life, drifts towards a reverse numinous behaviour, the highest perversion an ode to self destruction, amphetamine, spacecookie, alcohol, marijuana, heroine pill, ecstasy, spangle space as far as filling a heap of cocain, an accumulation of high risk behaviour on drug like a ropewalker,”Nihilo”between free fall and nirvana, between” stellar way “and “one way trip”.

6 - stellar way and one way trip

2 other attractions can be seen above on the left and below on the right of the roller coaster first of all the “stellar way” where we can see a group of figures rising up in the sky, sitting on armchairs.

Then”one way trip” , here again a group of figures together in a railcar are about to disappear into the bowels of the earth inside a skull’s mouth...

Sky and Earth, heavenly direction on one side, gates of Hell on the other side.

However, on this particular case, both leads to nothingness, the railcar is going to disappear from the picture, swallowed towards oblivion, its passengers are destined to abysses.

As for the figures in the armchairs, their passive bearings convey a worrying attitude near unconsciousness or lobotomy.

Between excitement and catatonia, they seem under hypnosis.

 Are they coming down from the sky to meet the passengers from “one way trip” or rising into the air ?
In case they would actually rise into the air, let’s remind of the fact that this ascent is done thanks to a machine, the attraction an allegory of assisted death, road to the scaffold, climbing till the scheduled fall.

As for the plane dive, it is here to increase that mental suggestion .

7 - Pinata and volcano
​

They are the last 2 elements in this 2nd part, they are the” results” from the latin resultatum, past participle of resultare( to jump backwards,to send back, to resound ).
I insist on the etymology of this term, specially in the psychological context I am trying to highlight.
I explain: when we see the pinata fall we know it is coming from the sky and due to crash, its belly torn apart loosing all it contains, doomed to scatter in the nowhere dimension.

But it is split, dying or loosing its sap which inevitably extricate itself from its belly, destroying as well its meaning and its function as paradoxically its triumphal function explodes to the eyes of all . The pinata did not “exist” yet, it simply “was.
Once destroyed, stripped of its candies, it “exists” at last
Its remembrance, the splendor of its fate gets into the memories and the fantasies, a sacrificial lamb, a fuse...
It was there only to be broken, it is a both future and passed projection of “Nihilo”, the “result”, in other words the realised “Nihilo”.

When I speak of future and passed projection, I return to the latin etymology of the term “resultat”  “ to jump backwards”
The result is the purpose of a thing, an action or a thought, waiting for the result, it is to project oneself into a future expectation, to wait for the verdict, to create a chain of circumstances agreeing to a result.
Yet, paradoxically, this result “jumps backwards”, it calls again on all that had been done.
So it is defined by an amount of events and decisions determined a long time ago, consciously and of course inconsciously.
What happens , happens, because it was bound to happen.
When predestination and creative thinking meet, past and future get so entangled that we can then speak of time zero or eternity.
The destruction of the pinata becomes then a sort of archetypal loop with endless reverberations, the result, the achievement.
“Nihilo” says he aims at the enjoyment by the let go, in fact, he waits patiently the moment of his fall to shine like never before, broken, violated,falling in the sky so as his memory,his yelling vibrations jump backwards, echo, resound in the strongest way possible in the collective unconscious.
For an impermanent, he aims at eternal glory in fact the ultimate masochism becomes an icon of martyrdom.
The volcan, as for it, is a rupture and transitional element, both the epilogue of this 2nd part and the prologue of the 3rd and last part.

First of all rupture because with its full and imposing shape, it contrasts with the emaciated lines and structures, the artificial skeleton, the synthetic arteries of the amusement park.
It wakes up, then we can also speak of “result”, suffering from insane magmatic uprisings, its final function is the eruption.
The eruption marks the breaking point, the climax .

The thick volatiles that are issuing form a new column of smoke that separates the 2nd part from the 3rd one.
Climax, in English, can mean orgasm, the volcano can and must be considered here like a reference to the sexual pressure, a transition to the 3rd part “Libido” .

​Partie 3 :

The part 3 is composed of the « P »door and of the 3 panels forming the “Libido” composition.

The 1st door is the “P” door, “Pute” door.
We can see a stiletto and wedge-heeled lady’s shoe, with metallic spikes covering the heel, and the outside vinyl forming the cove to accommodate the foot.
 The back of this shoe makes us guess a face.

2 diamond-shaped precious stones, crimped on the heel surface, create a grotesque look, like an insect.
​
By its shape, the heel is reminiscent of a long roltong , a mosquito proboscis, meant for biting and sucking blood.
When the “Pute” doors open, we discover the 3 panels of the 3rd part, “Libido”.

The shoe has set the tone, the scene talks about predation, domination,mental parasitism bringing back to human enslavement through its drives and its carnal condition.

« Libido » is divided in 7 points I am submitting and I am going to develop later :

1 - temple, town and sky

 In this last part, the main building is a temple, the cross, the wings laterally adorning the dome, the Gothic pinnacles as well as the stainglass windows are the secret components pointing out the nature of this place.
I chose this type of building to emphasize the taboo, the idea of prohibition of the scene.
To confront or associate prostitution and the sacred, reinforce the notion of prohibition.
We can speak of symbolic chiaroscuro.
As for the rest of the town, like in the 1st part, it includes a succession of skyscrapers... We can notice slightly more gothic designs both classical and baroque...

I think the whole of it brings out something softer.
In the foreground, below on the left, a twisted cone can be noticed , a phallic symbol among many others , on the other side, below on

​ the right, a metallic heart is enveloped in a kind of case at the top of a column.

This detail refers to gold items, gifts, the pernicious association of love and money.
We can see 2 other symbols and a display panel with letters, a parrot, a king on a throne and the incription “ Manneken”.
Anecdotally, when I presented the preparatory drawings of this triple triptich to this picture sponsors, I went to see them ,they own a very nice house near mine in my native village.
There ,in a nice birdcage, there was a parrot, grey from Gabon technically speaking, and named “Manneken”. The sponsors of this work are of Belgian origin, they have chosen this name related to the “Manneken-Pis” in Brussels .
In the Dutch language, “Manneken” means little man.
Knowing this, I wanted to take advantage of it by placing a marionette king on his throne under the display panel “Manneken”, showing in that way the men weakness in front of the carnal lust, and even for the men regarded as the most powerful ones, the kings.
As for the parrot, it is of course a nod to the famous grey of Gabon making history in this picture.

2 - Skies

In the foreground, below on the right of the scene, a bas-relief shows a moon, stars and clouds.
This picture depicts a night sky with stars, the moon and clouds.

The night evokes the desire, the stars the dreams, the moon the ficklesness and the ciclicity, in other words the oscillatory nature of human exchanges..
About the wings surrounding the temple, we must see also a celestial notion, a reference to the Ancien World ideas.
In the Ancien World, people thought the earth was the center of the world. Stars and gods had been imagined in crystal spheres, each one representing a sky. There was then a sky for each planet, that is to say 7 in all.
The scene contains 7 characters, 7 stars so to speak associated by extension with 7 celestial strata like in the Ancient World.
​

The 7th heaven is also, as everyone knows, an expression to speak of orgasm...
A star dominates the scene, it is the “Queen of Dolls”.s”.

3 - Queen of Dolls

Here the central figure is the feminine counterpart of the demon in the 1st part « Ego », a femme fatale but also a priestess, her clothes, her earrings as well as her snake and the 2 puppets she is holding in her hands reflect the woodooism, the witches, the occult.

Through all those symbols; I wanted to synthetise the archetype of the “Domina”, an irresistible sadistic dominatrix.

Her lunar attractiveness captures all the pulses , this figure is “Libido”.

As well as “Ego” with the diamonds, she, too,is associated with money due to the banknotes around her.
Enterprising woman, a madam, her appeal and her influence extend to the other women working for her and revering her.

They are her “Prostitutes”.

4 - Prostitutes

As regard with the relationship between the 4 prostitutes and their mistress, you must see there an allegory of the hive, the matriarch at the top of the structure, and the worker bees that are devoted to her.

The prostitutes, fierce workers, mechanize the courtship.

Both victims and culprits, love, sex and affection misleed in an inextricable chaos.
The scene is again organised around a pyramidal structure, the “Queen of Dolls” being at the top of the triangle.

A little below in the continuity, in the middle of the pyramid, 2 prostitutes stand , back arched, their faces back.
On the same partition as the association temple and prostitutes,their look is ambivalent with underwear and wings.
Birds, wasps, halfway between angel and Devil .

They are like in extasy in a cataleptic state , below we can find 2 other prostitutes.
About their clothes, no particular difference, on the other hand, their bearing is provocative, showing off their charms, they hypnotize their clients, the 2 “Puppets”.

5 - Puppets

  At both ends of this last part, 2 men are hung by their hands. They are tied to ropes that come themselves to join a wooden board, just like 2 “puppets”.

Immobilized by invisible powers, they overwatch, sexually stimulated, those women they can’t touch.
Both of them, their penis erected, their pockets turned out, ruined, financially dominated.

Victims as well as culprits, perversive as well as perverted, they feed the hive.

Imprisoned in a carnal trap, they allow to be foraged, feeding an endless circle of interdependence.
Through the prostitutes, they observe their depraved reflections, by paying their favours they pay gradually for the destruction of their sublime part.

They wilt into a hell of libidinal submitting .





6 - hearts and banknotes on fire

The idea here is very simple ,banknotes and hearts on fire are falling from the sky.
The concept of trust and love is undoubtedly this heavenly thing, this absolute that the human emulation and the collective unconscious do their best every day to tramp on because of fear and lack of control.
Money, necessary evil ,intertwined, entangled in the middle of those hearts, once again in this picture we can speak of symbolic chiaroscuro.
Little hope in this sad picture, however, being a good superstitious man, it was my duty to add 2 last symbols, one of which will have the function of warding off bad luck.

7 - “Lips” &”Ankh”
​

As for those 2 symbols.
First of all, I put on the left of the picture, between the 2 prostitutes, the symbol”Lips”, showing nice woman lips and strengthening the seduction spirit that comes out of this scene by placing it over the left puppet, the lips emphasize the effect of domination.

As for the symbol on the right, it is the “Ankh” cross.

The ânhk or ansate cross is the Egyptian hieroglyph for the word “life”. The ânhk is also regularly associated with Isis, the goddess of fertility.

If I was determined to put that symbol in the picture, it is before all to leave a positive note.
In this work which, I remind you of it, is supposed to represent my view about hell on Earth, my idea was to leave a way out.

According to me, it is in this last part about perverted love that it was wise and also necessary to lodge it.

Here we are, it was the Bestial Bermuda presentation.
As I was telling before, the 1st part “Ego” is the mirror of the last part “Libido” : 2 triptichs dealing with sadism surrounding the tryptich about masochism, in the style of the love triangle consisting of Yankasi, Keiko, and Reiko in the trilogy Ecstasy Melancholia and Thanatos from Ryu Murakami…
In conclusion and to speak of the last point, I also placed by way of prologue and epilogue of either end of the triple tryptich.
2 little devils, witnesses to the scene, both crouching down at the top of a building ,hands on cheeks.
The one, benignant, is tired with the sight, on the contrary, the other one, evil, revels in what he is seeing.
Yin and Yang are complements, final expression of human duality…
